![]() I don’t even know I have quite the same tastes in games as I did when I was hyped through the roof for this thing. ![]() So seeing the release trailer announcement today was really quite something. ![]() Some people did come to this conclusion though and the fallout was probably about as toxic at points as you can imagine.Įventually news did come, in the form of additional screenshots here or from time to time another video showing a new feature or significant tweak that had been added. Wollay - the developer of Cube World - had always been somewhat reserved, but hadn’t struck me as someone who would grab the cash and run. But it would also be fair to say that what was there was very… Bare bones.Īs the months ticked up without word, reaching the year mark, and then yet more months still… People begun to believe - as you would, I know I did - that it was an abandoned project. And some people perhaps rather doggedly did exactly that. The game as it existed could still be used as a vehicle for some fun. It received one update a couple of weeks post this launch and then… Nothing. There was a huge generated world with regions, cities, towns, dungeons and more.Įventually it ‘came out’ in the form of a paid for Alpha in 2013. I'm not fully excusing the lack of PR, but it just irks me when I see people (not nessecarily you) when people give so little thought to it and just see it as someone running away with your money. If you’re unfamiliar with the history, Cube World came into some degree of fame during the Minecraft craze with early videos and screenshots looking like an amazing mix of Minecraft and Zelda. Is he telling the truth? Who knows, the point is, you're never going to get 100% proof, (much like anything on the news) unless you've seen it with your own eyes, so to only continue to barrage him is a waste of time. People didn't (and still ) don't care, just because they don't "believe" him on that blog post. Knowing that if people are willing to go through the trouble of DDOSing you over a $15-$20 game with a team of just two people, as opposed to those AAA companies who are probably DDOSed because of certain corporate "decisions" they make, who barely sneeze when it happens because have the money, I can see that as very demoralizing that someone out there hates you that much because they see you just as "evil" as the other big wigs. Gamers (the verbal ones at least) can be the most self-entitled bunch who will complain about anything, so maybe he thought after the DDOS he, for lack of a better term, should "keep his mouth shut," less he give people more excuses to berate him further.ĭDOSing happens a lot, yes, but not too many think about the context of this particular attack. He was flooded with hateful emails and disrespectful comments, so to say anything at all on social media is just another post for trolls to swing their epeens. I don't have it myself but I've had to deal with someone who did, and it ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sucks. He already explained that he was suffering from depression, so for him to just "get over it" as others would say is rather insulting. aside from terrible and disrespectful PR of the developers. They simply wanted to release the game in a more finished state, and that's what this beta is. Originally posted by ʍℯ:Except they didn't cancel the development.
